Dane Mitchell, 32, of Boston and Revere, pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, the US Attorney for Massachusetts said. He was out on supervised release from a 2018 firearms conviction and is not allowed to have a gun.
Mitchell was arrested in December 2021 after federal agents investigating a gang came across a Snapchat account that featured several videos of Mitchell posing with a pistol, the prosecutor said.
Police searched Mitchell's home in Revere in December 2021 and found a loaded .380 caliber handgun with the serial number scratched off, authorities said. They found ammunition — which he is not allowed to have — several bags of cocaine — which no one is allowed to have — cocaine base, fentanyl, cutting agents, a digital scale, blender, and a press for packaging narcotics, officials continued.
Mitchell faces up to 10 years in prison on the possession of a firearms charge, according to federal guidelines.
